With our aim of achieving the Active School Flag this year the school has organised for all children to take part in a super active skipping workshop!
What is it?
The aim is to introduce children and teachers to the world of skipping. Skipping is a terrific form of exercise that helps a child’s agility, balance, hand-eye co-ordination and can increase speed through footwork. It teaches children about rhythm and when put into team routines, it provides them with team work skills and encourages them to have confidence in their sporting ability. It is a great way to exercise, maintain good health while having lots of fun.
When is it?
The workshop will take place over two days, Monday 21st January. Every class will take part in a 40 minute workshop, and on Tuesday there will be a skipping masterclass by the instructor for all children to watch!
How much will it cost?
The cost per child for the workshop will be €2.50. Also, there will be ropes available for the children to buy should they wish - each rope will cost €6.
Payments can be made online via the Aladdin App.
Next week is Heritage week in our school. We celebrate our shared and family histories through the week and look, compare and contrast what life was like in the past and now. We were hoping that if any family had a special artefact or heirloom they would like to show the children that they could come into our class on Friday, January 25th to show it. It could be something that a family or household would have used long ago or even a special piece of family history like a photograph, piece of jewellery or any other significant heirloom.
The children will be encourage to speak about their heritage and family history throughout the week also so if there any special stories unique to their families or history that you would like them to share you can email these to me also at firstname.lastname@example.org
Well done to Dalal in Willow class for winning handwriter of the month for the month of December! Dalal has worked super hard to write clearly, neatly and accurately using her cursive writing. A sample of her writing will be up on our super handwriting board across from the hall. We're so proud of you Dalal!
A very happy new year to all the families in Willow Class. The children are all excited to experience another busy term of learning, play and fun!
There is a slight change to our P.E. timetable this year, we will be doing P.E. on Mondays and Wednesdays, please ensure your child is wearing suitable clothing and running shoes on these days.
What an amazing achievement for lots of boys and girls in Willow class who missed no days in Term 1!
Huge congrats to Stefania for winning our student of the week today, she's been working super hard in Gaeilge and knows lots of questions, full sentences and rhymes. Well done Stefania!
Willow class are a proud bunch of children today. We published our first set stories that have gone into our class library. We worked hard to plan our story and re-draft it before publishing. We have explored story writing this term and you can see how far we have come from the details we have included in our stories! If you are popping into Willow class ask us all about it and maybe we might read a story or two to you!
Thanks to Dale Treadwell who visited P.E.T.N.S. last week for a Dinosaur Show! It was great and we learned so much about dinosaurs.
Toys and Bake Sale Items needed for our Winter Fair!
We will have a toy and baked goods table for sale at the fair. If any parents have old toys that are in good condition that they would like to donate they can do so on Thursday, December 6th. Parents who would like to donate baked goods for the bake sale can drop these into the school on the morning of the Winter fair, Friday, December 7th.
The PTA and the pupils of Powerstown ETNS are delighted to announce that our annual School Art Exhibition will be on display in our hall this Friday, December 7th 2018!
The theme of this year’s exhibition is ‘Winter Fun’. The artwork will be beautifully finished, professionally framed and catalogued for display in the school. As well as a great artistic event we are using the exhibition as a fundraiser to help to reduce the cost of swimming lessons for all the families in the school.
The pictures are great value at only €12 each, if you buy a second picture it will cost €10, if you buy a third it will cost €9.50. The framed print copies of the originals would make a lovely present, will be available to view on Wednesday December 5th and you can purchase them during the Winter Fair this Friday 7th December.
We look forward to seeing everyone there but if you can’t make it & would like to have your child’s picture, send the money in before exhibition day and we will arrange delivery.
Art is an area that every child enjoys and the exhibition will be a big social event in the life of the school this year, so please come along, (support our fundraiser) and admire the work of all our talented children!
