We had a great time performing to celebrate 'World Peace Day' today! Thanks to all those who were able to attend, for those who were unable check out our performance below!
The forest and garden school picked their first harvest from the Geodome today! They had great fun picking cucumbers, pumpkins and tomatoes!
Next Monday we're starting our coffee mornings organised by Barnardos in the school hall.
It's a great opportunity to meet other multinational families.
Toys and children's activities will be available on the day so bring your babies, toddles and pre-school children along too!. It's from 08:30am to 10:00am.
We'd love to see you there!
A huge congratulations to Khloe in Willow class for winning the student of the week today. Khloe was chosen because she has been so kind, caring and thoughtful towards others. She never leaves anyone out when having a class discussion and on yard too. Great job Khloe!
What a special day it was today in Powerstown ETNS! We made our speeches and showed our posters and voted in our new committee members. We are all so proud of all the brave boys and girls who worked so hard on their posters and speeches. We used our voices as equal members of our school to vote in our committees. It was an exciting assembly time discussing all of this too!
Our new committee members in Willow class are:
Green Schools: Sebastian & Zuzanna
Student Council: Jessica & Maria
Forest School & Garden: Samantha & Emilia
Congratulations to them all, it's hard when we have to accept we didn't get voted in but we can tell ourselves "maybe next time".
We have been exploring being brave and making our own unique mark's in art class. We listened to the 'story of the dot' which was all about not being afraid to create art. We then studied the work of the Japanese artist Yamoi Kusama who made her mark using dots! Our classroom nearly turn completely dotty with the explosion of colour, shapes and sizes of dots on our pages. Check out our display of our amazing work!
Willow class had their first trip to the forest school on Friday to check out the changes in our trees now that the new season of Autumn has begun. We loved observing nature and playing amongst the trees. We can't wait to see which one of us will be voted onto our Forest school and Garden comittee!
The first class teachers and our SNA will be holding our information meeting regarding the first class teaching year this Wednesday, September 12th at 2:10pm. At this time you are invited to make your way up to Willow class room where your children will be waiting and completing busy work during the meeting.
The meeting is a great opportunity to get an insight into the types of academic, social and physical targets and teaching that will be set out for the year ahead. We will discuss homework, classroom routines, Aistear and other important aspects of your child's learning. There will be a brief period after the meeting in which you can raise any questions you might have.
Hoping to see you all there.
Please note that your child will have their homework diary in their school bag today. We are working on taking down our homework and getting into the habit of checking our homework diary when we come home. Tonight their homework should read: "Eng: Read a book at home".
We are building up their homework each week but this will be all the homework for this week. They can read a book in their home language or any reading material that is suitable at home.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. We are having our parent meetings next week so James (the other 1st class teacher) and I will have all other details regarding first class outlined for you all then too. The date of this is Tuesday, September 12th at 2:10pm.
Wow! What a super first week in Willow class. We had so much fun and we all were brillant at settling into our new school day, classroom and teacher. We sang songs, did lots of counting, used our creativity and spoke lots of Gaeilge! Thanks to all the families for helping to make the this week possible. Keep an eye on this blog over the year to see what we all get up to. We can't wait to learn more!
